The recipe for an unforgettable walking holiday

The recipe for an unforgettable walking holiday

  • Written by interNATIONAL PARKtours

Australia's Green Cauldron Tour Coordinator, Suzanne Noakes takes a moment to reflect on what goes into researching and planning an interNATIONAL PARKtours walking holiday...

When researching destinations for our hand-crafted journeys we often look past iconic attractions and really try to showcase the personality of each of the places we visit. The secrets that only a local would know. A sense that we have truly found utopia with a journey to the heart of the country.

I am constantly amazed at the delights and surprises that our talented tour leaders deliver on our walking holidays; where to find the best boutique wine makers in the region (a favourite of mine), the farmer who makes award winning cheese straight from his own dairy, the right time to capture sunrise from a secluded lookout, finding historians and activists who dedicate their time to the community, seeking out artists who capture the spectacular on canvas and chefs hidden in valleys that conjure up delights under olive trees. I think it’s the special moments that really make a trip memorable. These sometimes cannot be put into words - but when described are simply noted as serendipity - guests enjoying a BBQ at nightfall with a backdrop of thousands of fireflies lighting up the sky; sampling fresh strawberries on a farmers doorstep, the delight of discovering a local market just around the bend, the smell of fresh dew when stretching out on walks through World Heritage Rainforest or a picnic at the base of a thundering waterfall. All this wrapped in the essence of indulging in the delights offered at the retreats we stay at. These moments are what dreams are made of. Sure most people can travel through the places we go to without joining a tour, but really they only scratch the surface. I believe what makes our tours stand out from the rest is the camaraderie, joining like-minded people on an intimate journey, and knowledge shared by local guides who epitomise the magical regions we journey through. This is what makes the difference between travellers and tourists. And of course the bonus of all of these additional experiences are set against a backdrop of daily walks into some of the most pristine and spectacular scenery you will ever visit - some even with a World Heritage tag to them. This is certainly a recipe for a great holiday... and let’s not forget the most important criteria for any travel - its heaps of fun. Well that’s what our guests keep on telling us. The joy I have in developing these programs is only surpassed by the adulations we receive from our guests and I suppose that’s why they keep on travelling with interNATIONAL PARKtours for the past 39 years.

This spring, interNATIONAL PARKtours offers a rare opportunity to enjoy journeys from the heart by exploring both the Secrets of the Scenic Rim and Australia’s Green Cauldron - Northern NSW. This is the first time that these two journeys can be joined together to enhance the experience.
