This 17 day ramble through the English countryside is sure to delight the senses, as we explore Dorset and Devon’s rugged coastline then the Lake District verdant fells. Travelling from south west to north west England, feel the history beneath your feet on day walks to headlands, coves and through lush, green countryside. Our journey starts on the Jurassic Coast, the first wholly natural World Heritage Site to be designated in the UK. On sections of the South West Coast Path, we begin with short walks through 185 million years of history, with rocks and fossils dating to the Jurassic, Triassic and Cretaceous periods. From here we travel to the ancient city of Exeter, on the River Exe, to explore the beauty of the Dartmoor National Park. Winding our way through County Devon we spend two nights on the Exmoor Heritage Coast, and continue our exploration of nearby Exmoor National Park. Our journey heads north with overnight in the ancient city of Bath. We have time to explore the town’s 18th century Georgian architecture with a visit to the iconic Royal Crescent, the Circle and Roman Baths. Continuing via Manchester, we settle into the Lake District for our eight night’s immersion in this area. Our base is the Lindeth Howe Country House, nestled on a hillside overlooking Lake Windermere. Here we spend our days exploring some of UK’s most breathtaking scenery, steeped in history and literary associations. Wandering the fells of Cumbria and its many lakes, we also make time for lazy pub lunches and a taste of England’s real ale.
