Tanzania & Kenya - Wildlife & Walks Walking Holiday

Overview

Zanzibar, Arusha, Ngorongoro, Serengeti, Masai Mara and Samburu - discover East Africa’s iconic destinations over three weeks. Our tour starts in Tanzania’s former capital, the bustling seaport of Dar es Salaam. Fringed by coral reefs, we stay two nights on Zanzibar. This Spice Island’s cultural heart is Stone Town, a labyrinth of grand 19th century houses, mosques and bustling bazaars. We then fly north to the small yet diverse national park of Arusha. Dominated by the volcanic cone of Mt Meru, its peaks and eastern foothills are protected within the park along with the coloured Momela Lakes and the Ngurdoto Crater. At dawn and dusk, we may have views eastward to Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro (5892m). To the south west, the river at Tarangire National Park guarantees water and therefore plentiful wildlife viewing, especially elephants. At Ngorongoro Conservation area, we spend a full day in the crater, one of the best places to see Africa’s big five. Tanzania’s old national park, Serengeti is famous for the great migration of wildebeest along with 500 species of birds and the “small five”. Crossing into Kenya, our time in the Masai Mara includes evening and early morning safaris, nature walks and an optional visit to a Masai village. To the north, Lake Nakuru National Park is famous for flamingos and over 450 other bird species; then we search for crocodiles and hippos on Lake Baringo. Overnight in The Ark, the game-rich Aberdare National Park. This tour highlight is followed by Samburu National Reserve, home to lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, giraffe and zebra. Our last day walk is on the foothills of Mt Kenya, before ending in Nairobi.
