Experience the people, pathways, culture and cuisine of the Amalfi Coast on this 12 day immersion. Your tour leader, born and bred in the area, introduces you to this World Heritage listed region through half day walks along with visits to historical villas and palazzos. Meeting family and friends, we enjoy visits to local farms and sample homemade delights. We are invited into family homes, restaurants and cafes to share ancestral cooking secrets and you can learn how they have produced olives, liqueurs, wines, cheese and pasta over centuries. The mountain village of Agerola, our base to explore the Amalfi coast, is known as 'the small Switzerland' thanks to the mountain landscape, the bracing air and refined buildings. Ten nights at a family run hotel means we can truly unpack and experience a true slice of Italian life. From this scenic position, we follow local trails and stairways to the seaside villages of Positano, Sorrento, Praiano and Amalfi. There is also the option to climb Tre Calli Mountain and hike the Path of the Gods, a cliff-top trail above the Amalfi Coast. Besides pristine views of the coast, these trails also give us a peek back into the ancient ways of travelling along mule routes from town to town. We see how the local people have worked the land over centuries to produce the simple and abundant food that inspires gourmet delights. Moving to Naples for two nights, local guides help us to discover hidden secrets in the ruins of Pompeii and we enjoy a hillside walk that follows medieval steps back to the historical centre of Naples.
