Region: Europe // Dates: 20 May - 29 May 2024
Northern Italy - Bassano to Bolzano Walking Holiday

Experience the rich culture, history, and regional tastes of the northern Vicenza province before travelling north to Paneveggio Natural Park and Bolzano, capital of the South Tyrol. We begin our exploration in the towns of Bassano del Grappa and Marostica, both abundant in medieval and renaissance architecture and intriguing stories dating back to the Roman period and Medieval eras.

We spend four days wining and dining at local favourites, strolling through markets, and embarking on guided walks exploring the Brenta River, Marostica castle, and the local landmark of Monte Grappa. Our home for the next two nights is the plateau of Altopiano di Asiago where we explore the town with a local guide and enjoy a walk to Forte Campolongo, a significant Italian fortress on the Tyrolean border. The following day is spent with our guide in the Ortigara area, the site of a WW1 battle. The monuments and trenches exist alongside a tapestry of wildflowers, birdlife, and magnificent views.

From Asiago we drive to Passo Rolle, stopping along the way to explore the town of San Martino di Castrozza, before reaching our hotel surrounded by the rugged peaks of the Dolomites. For the next two days we explore Paneveggio Natural Park, with views of the formidable Pale di San Martino Dolomites around every corner. We end each day with delicious regional specialties which reflect the changing locations. Our final walk is beneath the soaring towers of the Catinaccio / Rosengarten Dolomites before our journey concludes in the city of Bolzano.
