Tarkine to Tasman Peninsula - Walking Holiday

Tarkine to Tasman Peninsula Walking Holiday
Tourism Tasmania

Overview

This is the ultimate two-week tour to some of Tasmania’s best natural delights. After time in Launceston, travel through classic ‘English-style’ countryside towards Mole Creek Karst National Park. Based here for two nights, there’s time to explore the subterranean world of Marakoopa Cave, then gaze over the Great Western Tiers from the Alum Cliffs and Devil’s Gullet walks. We learn about the iconic Tasmanian devil at a private wildlife sanctuary then hunt for secrets buried underground on a truffle farm. Following the Bass Strait to the north west coast, a visit to the iconic ‘Town of Murals’ in Sheffield is followed by a walk to The Nut in Stanley and night-time penguin spotting. Travelling via the remote village of Arthur River, we descend into the timeless landscape of the Western Wilderness and stay three nights in isolated rainforest cottages. To experience the many moods of the Tarkine, we cruise the Pieman River, enjoy walks in Australia’s largest temperate pristine rainforest and have the option to kayak secluded waterways. We walk through prehistoric Gondwana landscapes to the summit of Mt Donaldson, visit the West Coast Pioneers Memorial Museum at Zeehan, and stop the night in picturesque Strahan, steeped in pioneering stories. A 6 hour eco-cruise on the Gordon River / Macquarie Harbour is followed by a short visit to historic Queenstown. Onwards to Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, we soak up lakeside vistas, hike Mt Rufus and explore scenic shoreline trails. Crossing to the south east coast, we visit Russell Falls in Mount Field National Park and stay three nights on the Tasman Peninsula to explore the geological marvel of Cape Raoul and explore Port Arthur Historic Site. The dramatic sea cliffs of Tasman National Park can only be fully experienced on a coastal cruise and this is a chance to see a variety of sea life. We end our journey with overnight accommodation in restored 1800’s warehouses at Salamanca Place in Hobart.
